Deciphering the Unwritten Rules of Gift-Giving

For many of us, giving gifts on a special occasion may seem quite straightforward. However, when the holiday season is just a few days ahead, you may feel stressed out because selecting a gift has never been easier for you. Giving a gift that will be cherished by the receiver is a creative challenge. That’s why there are some unwritten rules you should know before heading towards a gift shop that has it all.

Below are some practical tips to help you get through the season. You’ll be sure that your family and friends will not only like your gifts, they’ll ask you how you figured out the preferences of each one of them!

Exchange Gifts

It’s time to enjoy the festivities and you hear the doorbell ring. You go and see it’s your neighbor standing with mud cake! You thank her and take it. But now, you are wondering how to reciprocate the gift.

This is the feeling of reciprocity where you believe you should give a gift for a gift received.

If you are the one who believes in this and would not like to keep thinking about and be stressed, set aside some gifts to give out just in case.

Also, sometimes, we fret excessively much about the gift when it is not at all about that! A warm embrace, welcoming the neighbor in, sampling the cake, and then spending a good evening lounging around would be just as precious (all probably more) than the reciprocated gift.

How Much Do You Spend?

You have bought all the gifts to give away this holiday but as you sit down packing them, you notice the striking dissimilarity between the lavish dress (at marked down price) and seemingly low-priced book, even though both are of the same value.

Often times, we are in a conflict of the ‘value’ of the gift. How to make sure the other person isn’t offended over the ‘low value’ or ‘high value’ gift, which doesn’t match their financial status?

The best pointer is to keep in mind their financial condition and your relationship with them. Don’t worry as much about how much you paid as how valuable your gift appears. When all else fails, get a gift card to a restaurant!

Asking the Receiver What They Want

Sometimes, the surprise lies in getting them something unexpected. If you want to emphasize the importance of oral hygiene in your children, for instance, instead of waiting around for some holiday, just read up on Oral B 5000 reviews and gift someday. It’s something that the kids may not ask by themselves but it surely is very engaging and captivating!

However, at other times, if it’s a special occasion, you can ask your friends or children what they want – directly. They would be happier if you fulfill their request.

One for All

While this sounds all too good, it probably is not that cheerful when you plan to buy gifts for the whole family, year after year.

Perhaps, you could scale down and set a budget.

Also, consider getting gifts by jotting down names of the gift receivers. You could also have an agreement of ‘no gifts.’ This is not only a stress-buster but also enhances the holiday and the mood of all the people.

Bringing All Rules Together

When it’s about choosing the best rule to choose a gift for your loved ones, the only thing that matters is how they want it to be. Surprise them by letting them know how heartedly you keep their choices in mind. However, if you have set a budget, choose your gifts accordingly. That’s because holidays mean only one thing: spreading love with gifts – the gifts that make you and the receiver smile.
